FAQs

  • A Senior Move Manager® specializes in assisting older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects of downsizing, relocation and/or “aging in place.” On Cue Organizing will be the patient, hands-on liaison between you, your movers and wherever you're moving to. We understand the emotional weight of downsizing a life-time of possessions, and our work is relational and caring.

Additionally, Senior Move Managers® frequently assist individuals who choose to stay in their own homes, but simply require expert organizational skills and solid knowledge of "aging in place" concepts to help them achieve their goal of improving their quality of life! To be considered a Senior Move Manager®, you must be a member of NASMM.

  • Movers are experts at what they do – the logistics of moving household goods from point A to point B. We rely on their expertise to care for our clients’ possessions during the move and deliver them safely to their destination.

Senior Move Managers® move people – not just boxes. We are your detail oriented, empathetic project managers who minimize the chaos and stress associated with moving by addressing all aspects of the move process. Senior Move Managers® have significant expertise and resources, and On Cue Organizing has a proven 5 stage process of moving that saves you money, reduces stress and produces quality results. Our services are personalized to meet your needs and preferences.

  • We are fully licensed and insured. We conduct background checks prior to hiring all employees.

  • We adhere to the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM) code of ethics, which is a pledge of commitment to our clients: loyalty, advocacy, client self-determination, and right to privacy. It’s a pledge of commitment to business integrity and accountability, including not accepting gifts of any kind from our clients, not accepting referral fees from vendors, and keeping all information confidential. It is also a pledge of commitment to continuing education as a Senior Move Manager®.

On Cue Organizing welcomes clients of all races, cultures, identities, orientations and abilities.

  • Just as each individual is unique, so is every move or project. Our services vary and we charge very simply: time and materials. We start with a “virtual coffee” or phone call to establish your needs. Then the only way we can provide an accurate estimate is to send a Project Manager to you for a free one hour in-home consultation. Our Project Manager will listen carefully to your details and then compile a written estimate for the services you requested based on 3 cues: the size of your current home, your collection of items, and how sentimentally attached you are to your belongings. There's no obligation! Your project plan can be adjusted by you at any time, and we constantly communicate with you to make sure your goals are being met, our time is being used efficiently, and there are no surprise bills or hidden fees at the end of the project.

  • Hiring a professional helps you avoid making costly (and stress-producing) mistakes, such as bringing too much furniture or hiring the wrong type of movers. If you are looking to sell your home before your move, it’s a proven fact that an organized and decluttered house sells faster and for more money. We can also arrange with our various associates and vendors to help you sell any items that you are ready to re-home.

  • Yes! We love working with seniors, but we can help with downsizing or moving for any of life’s transitions including: getting married and combining households, relocating for work, distributing personal items and organizing your home after a partner has passed, home remodeling, divorce, whole house estate dispersal, and arranging and organizing your home due to upcoming surgery or health concerns. It’s about the stage, not the age! Contact us today for a “virtual coffee” or phone call to talk about your needs.

  • We are happy to assist you with whichever services you need. Pick one, several, or all of our services and don’t hesitate to ask if you have a special request that is not on our list of services. If it is not in our area of expertise we will help locate the appropriate resource. We can start with a free “virtual coffee” or phone call to establish your needs.

Think of it this way – you don’t hesitate to provide your kids/grandkids with the tutors, coaches, piano teachers, etc. that they need to enrich their lives. You deserve the same to help you navigate one of the top 5 most stressful life events while maintaining your own mental and physical health. On Cue Organizing is the coach who has all the newest tips and technology with moving and downsizing, and we will work with your team (family, friends, real estate agents, etc) to ensure everything goes smoothly. We can provide hands-on support or simply a timeline and plan of action so that you and your family can stay on track. We can also communicate directly with adult children to keep them informed of our progress if they can’t be there. You will never be charged for any work we don’t do, even if it’s included in the estimate.

  • Call us! On Cue Organizing will develop a personalized plan based on your specific needs and circumstances. All coordination and physical labor for sorting, packing and disposal can be done or arranged for by us. You make all the key decisions and retain your energy for more important things. We start with a “virtual coffee” or phone call to establish your needs. Then the best way we can provide an accurate estimate is to send a Project Manager to you for a free one hour in-home consultation. After your consultation, your Project Manager will begin working with you right away to plan the details of your move and schedule resources. We have a very clear 5 stage process for moving, and we will stay with you until everything is unpacked and put away. You'll sleep better knowing that nothing will be forgotten.

  • We have a 5 stage process for completing your move:

Stage 1 – Plan the move – Plan and orchestrate the entire process and every detail. Coordinate the sorting, packing and moving dates. Secure the movers and other vendors. Obtain the boxes and moving supplies needed for the project. Visit the new space and plan for any navigational challenges such as stairs and elevators. Measure each new room, closets, cabinets and shelving. Notate windows, doors, overhead lights, door swings, electrical outlets, light switches and cable/phone jacks.

Stage 2 – Design the new space – This is the fun part! We will work with you to create a detailed plan for the placement of you furniture and personal belongings that obtains maximal storage, safe navigation, and makes you new place feel like home.

Stage 3 – Sorting and Packing Sessions – Identify the new destination for every item in your home. Determine what items will be moved, what will be donated, what will be sold, what will be gifted to family or friends, what will be recycled or discarded properly. This is the most overwhelming part, but also the most important part to get right so that you are able to thrive in your new home. We pack everything safely, securely and for efficiency. A master inventory list is created, and boxes are organized by room and order of unpacking. Final packing happens the day before the move, leaving the necessary bedding, lamps, toiletries, change of clothing, medications, TV remotes and other items in place until packed early on move day.

Stage 4 – Move Day – We are onsite with the movers to make sure all the right furniture and items are loaded into the truck. We unpack everything and setup your new space according to your plans, down to making all the beds and setting up your lamps and coffee maker. We remove all boxes, bags and other trash.

Stage 5 – Finishing Touches – Finish all the move-in details including pictures and wall hangings, or coordinate with vendors for more complicated handyman work (like hanging a TV or heavy curtains). Mange the distribution of the contents left in the initial home according to plan.

  • If you are downsizing, moving, or remodeling your current home within the next year, the time to start is now! We help our clients with planning so they work in small chunks of time and still get everything accomplished without feeling overwhelmed. If you feel like doing a little sorting each day on your own, our work will go faster and save you money! The length of the organizing process depends on the number of rooms you wish to organize, the size of these spaces, the amount of clutter or other items, your motivation to get organized and the speed with which you can make decisions during the process.

Depending on the situation and availability of staff and a mover, small moves can be done with just a few days notice. These smaller moves are typically for older adults moving into an assisted living apartment, memory care unit, or skilled nursing facility. Larger projects or moves into independent living communities, including cottages and apartments, typically take more time, anywhere from three weeks to several months, depending on the amount of belongings and the specific project goals. It’s never too early to begin the planning process. We can start with a free “virtual coffee” or phone call to establish your needs.

  • On Cue Organizing will prepare a customized floor plan using your own furnishings. With an accurate floor plan, we will help you determine which of your favorite furnishings and cherished belongings will fit safely and comfortably into your new home. This step gives you peace of mind and makes your move most efficient for the movers, decreasing their time and your cost.

  • We respect that you have worked for many years to collect your loved possessions, and you want them to be re-homed the best way possible. In general, what doesn’t stay with you is either gifted to loved ones, sold, donated, recycled or disposed. Our team will help you sort and organize your belongings and provide you with the options ~ you make the final decisions. We can handle as much or as little as you want through our network of trusted providers.

  • Not to worry! We have seen it all, we promise complete confidentiality.

  • We recognize this can be the biggest hurdle to overcome in the moving process, but we will never tell you what to keep and what to let go. We will assist you and help you navigate through the process based on our extensive knowledge of the emotional issues, as well as an understanding of space and safety. We are partners with “Artifcts” to help with this issue. Click here to read more of how to preserve the story of your items and share it with others.

  • Absolutely! We will help you engage a qualified Move Management company in your destination state (of from your starting state if you are moving to Cincinnati) and work with them to make your relocation seamless.

  • It's never too soon to start the downsizing process, especially if your closets are stuffed to capacity, and your attics and garages are filled with memories and furniture of many decades gone by. We can begin helping you go through your possessions in smaller steps. Often, once you have started the right-sizing process for your current space, the idea of moving isn’t so overwhelming and you have a clearer picture of if it is the right choice for you. Regardless of whether you ever move, when you right-size your possessions you are calling the shots about where you want your things to go and not leaving the burden of those decisions up to your family and loved ones. We can start with a free “virtual coffee” or phone call to establish your needs.

  • Careers, family, geography — there are numerous demands placed upon you that may prevent you from being in the place you want to be: helping your loved ones with their move. Take comfort in knowing it is not only your physical presence but your emotional support that helps in this time of transition. We at On Cue Organizing understand the physical and emotional stresses associated with later lifestyle changes, as well as the ethical, safety and communication issues that accompany working with older adults and their families. We work closely with designated family and friends via email, virtual meetings or phone to get your loved ones moved while adhering to the wishes of family members who cannot be physically present. We are prepared to handle sensitive issues that may arise and treat everything with complete confidentiality. Let’s start with a free “virtual coffee” or phone call to establish your needs.

  • Your family home will be treated in an organized and dignified manner by caring individuals. We do our work with empathy, understanding, and discretion, making the house cleanout process fast and as painless as possible.
